IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings

The minister of the economy and finance will visit Washington from April 18 to 20, 2013, for the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Pierre Moscovici will participate in the meeting of the G20 finance ministers on Thursday, April 18 and Friday, April 19, then in the meetings of the International Monetary and Financial Committee until Saturday, April 20. He will also participate in the lunch hosted by the Development Committee on Saturday, April 20.

During this visit the minister of the economy and finance will hold bilateral meetings with Mr. Jim Kim, President of the World Bank, and Ms. Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the IMF. He will notably meet with Mr. Gene Sperling, economic policy advisor to President Obama, as well as with Mr. Anton Siluanov, Finance Minister of the Russian Federation and President-in-Office of the G20 Finance Track. Pierre Moscovici will also participate in a meeting devoted to the OECD initiative on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS), organized by Australia together with France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico and South Africa.

The minister of the economy and finance will also attend, on Thursday, April 18, a conference on the situation in the euro zone organized by the Financial Times and the Bertelsmann Foundation, together with his counterparts Anders Borg (Sweden), Ali Babacan (Turkey) and Jeroen Dijsselbloem, President of the Eurogroup.

These spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank will provide an opportunity for Pierre Moscovici to take stock of the global economy and to promote the government’s economic priorities, in particular the necessary balance between budgetary consolidation and support for growth, the resolution of global imbalances and strengthening the fight against tax evasion and money laundering, following on from the joint initiative presented by France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and Poland on the generalization of the automatic exchange of information in the field of taxation at the Ecofin Council in Dublin on April 12.

Pascal Canfin, Minister Delegate for Development

Mr. Pascal Canfin, Minister Delegate for Development, will visit Washington from April 18 to 20 in order to participate in the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

On this occasion, he will meet the new president of the World Bank, Mr. Jim Kim, and will participate in the World Bank Development Committee, during which the Bank’s new strategy focusing on shared prosperity and the fight against extreme poverty will be presented.

During his visit, Mr. Canfin will also participate in a preparatory meeting for the International Donor Conference for the development of Mali organized by France and the EU, scheduled to take place in Brussels on May 15.

The monitoring of the Millennium Development Goals, the definition of the post-2015 development agenda and the issues relating to the fight against climate change will also be central to the minister delegate’s exchanges in Washington.
