Press briefing given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman (excerpt)

Paris, 15 July 2013

France strongly condemns the attack on a patrol from the United Nations/African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) which killed seven Tanzanian soldiers and injured 17 others on 13 July.

We express our condolences to the Tanzanian authorities as well as to the victims’ families.

France is concerned about the deteriorating security situation in Darfur and urges the Sudanese government to investigate this attack swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice.

We reaffirm our full support for UNAMID’s action and for the states helping to consolidate peace in Darfur. Only a political solution can put an end to the cycle of violence. France calls on all those involved to join the Doha process and encourages the Sudanese authorities to continue honouring their commitments to development in Darfur. (...)./.
