Middle East peace process/meeting with Mr John Kerry

Statement by M. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Paris, July 19, 2013

US Secretary of State John Kerry has informed me of the terms of an agreement in principle that he has just concluded with a view to restarting Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. I told him that we welcome this prospect. I applaud the sense of responsibility demonstrated by the Israeli and Palestinian authorities.

France urges the parties to carry out these negotiations effectively, by creating a climate of dialogue and trust in order to reach an agreement. It is in everyone’s interest to bring an end to the conflict through the creation of a viable and sovereign Palestinian state living in peace and security alongside Israel.

Together with her European partners, France will spare no effort to facilitate negotiations and to participate, when the time comes, in implementing a peace agreement./.
