The President spoke to Mr David Cameron, the British Prime Minister, on 16 August about the situation in Egypt.
They noted their common analyses on the seriousness of the violence these past few days and on the need for a strong European message. The end of the violence and crackdown, respect by everyone for human rights and the resumption of dialogue between Egyptians must be an immediate priority. The European Union must uphold these demands and look at its relations with Egypt. The President and the British Prime Minister called for the foreign affairs ministers to meet swiftly to this end./.
