Poland/death of Tadeusz Mazowiecki

Published on October 30, 2013
Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic

Paris, October 28, 2013

The French President would like to pay tribute to Tadeusz Mazowiecki, who was the democratic transition leader in Poland. A man of deep moral rectitude, he always made sure to put his principles and values at the heart of policy. Both before 1989, in his struggle for freedom, and after taking office as Prime Minister, he constantly gave priority to consensus.

He had a deep and sincere affection for France and the values it embodies. He had been promoted to the highest rank of the Légion d’Honneur. France has lost a friend./.
