Interview given by M. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to the weekly magazine Paris-Match

Paris, January 23, 2014

Q. – Regarding Russia, do you think it’s effective to boycott the Sochi [Winter] Olympic Games? Is the Hollande-Putin cooperation working?

THE MINISTER – France isn’t boycotting the Games. Our delegation in Sochi, in line with our Winter Olympics tradition, will be led by the Sports Minister. We have many cooperation projects with Russia, which is an old friend of France, even though we don’t agree about everything. For example, on African issues, the Russians stand alongside us on the Security Council. Economically, our country has become one of the leading investors in Russia, and we’d like this to be reciprocal. President Putin has been invited to France in the spring. And he’s also due to come to Paris in June for the anniversary of the 1914-18 war. (…)./.
