François Hollande has spoken to David Cameron this evening.
The French President and the British Prime Minister recalled the necessity of Russia agreeing to a solution to overcome the crisis, in accordance with international law.
They emphasized the firmness of the position adopted by the Europeans at the extraordinary Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels this afternoon – in particular the possible adoption of targeted measures on relations between the EU and Russia in the absence of a military de-escalation.
They also signalled the European Union’s desire to support and become involved in international mediation efforts, in liaison with the UN and the OSCE.
They agreed to remain in constant coordination under the present circumstances and prepare together the extraordinary meeting of European heads of state and government on 6 March./.
