The Embassy of France in the United States welcomed Francophones and Francophiles to its premises for the Grande Fête de la Francophonie on March 21.

As one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the Month of the Francophonie, more than 35 embassies participated in the Grande Fête. Francophone embassies from all over the world presented their cultures and cuisines to the guests at the Embassy’s cultural center, La Maison Française, in Washington.

The event also included performances from two music acts from the French-speaking world. France’s indie-rock group La Femme performed, as well as Jomion and the Uklos, a world music trio from Benin.

With around 2000 attendees, the ticketed event, which had prices for general admission and benefactors, sold out.

Event sponsors included TV5 Monde, France, and the Organization Internationale de la Francophonie.

The Grand Fête was part of the larger Francophonie Cultural Festival, a six-week celebration of French-speaking cultures that occurs in Washington each spring. French consulates across the United States are also hosting events in promotion of French culture and language.
