Embassy Decorates 14 U.S. Veterans of WWII

On March 26, the Embassy decorated 14 U.S. veterans of World War II who served in France. The men were awarded the Legion of Honor, France’s highest distinction, for helping to liberate the country and bring peace to Europe.

The year 2014 marks the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, and will be celebrated through an extensive series of events in Normandy this summer. (For more information, please click here.)

The men decorated were Hugh Andrew, Frank Bertino, Curtis Deardorff, Franck Emanuel, William Gast, Joseph Julian, Saburo Kitagawa, James McKelvey, John Pfister, Edwin Stulb, Walter Winsjansen, Harry Woelkers, William Wright (posthumous), and Albert Zimmerman.
