In terms of weaponry, the Council explicitly backed those countries – because it’s a national decision – which decide to provide arms to the Iraqis. I think that this decision is important and that, in the normal course of events, other countries should follow a path identical or similar to France’s.
This doesn’t mean that the whole Iraq issue is over. It’s an extremely difficult conflict, and the terrorist group concerned, IS [Islamic State], is an extremely dangerous group.
All my colleagues emphasized that it’s not simply the Iraqis, not simply the Syrians, not simply the Middle East region which are under threat but all of us. That’s why the decisions taken today are positive. But obviously the action will have to be taken in the coming weeks and months./.
