Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic

Paris, October 1, 2014

On 1 October, the French President convened a Select Defence Council meeting devoted to combating the threat represented by the group Daesh and the terrorist groups claiming to be part of it.

France is continuing its action in Iraq, in line with the Iraqi authorities’ request, in order to weaken the armed terrorist movements present in the country and enable the Iraqi forces to restore stability and security to the country. It will continue to mobilize in close coordination with all the partners involved in a broadening coalition. The President decided to strengthen the military operation under way.

France is also continuing to support the democratic opposition in Syria by every means.

Measures to protect our country have been stepped up in the framework established by the Vigipirate plan. They will be the focus of constant assessment, and their level will be adapted to how the situation develops. Our nationals abroad can also count on support from the state’s services./.
