United Kingdom/nuclear energy
Paris, October 8, 2014
M. Emmanuel Macron, Minister of the Economy, Industry and the Digital Sector, wishes to express his satisfaction following the European Commission’s approval of the plan for the EDF group to build two EPR reactors in the United Kingdom at the Hinkley Point site.
This decision is a major step towards the implementation of the project. With a few days to go until the first World Nuclear Exhibition, to be held in Le Bourget, the decision shows the competitiveness of the EPR technology developed by Areva, its compliance with the highest safety standards and its ability to capture export markets.
This investment project is an illustration of Franco-British cooperation and its spin-offs in terms of business and jobs. It demonstrates the role nuclear energy can play, alongside renewable energy, in achieving the greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets the European Union has set itself./.
