Telephone conversation with President Obama

President Hollande spoke on the telephone this evening with President Obama about the Ebola epidemic in West Africa and the fight against Daesh in Iraq and Syria

With respect to the Ebola epidemic, François Hollande and Barack Obama called for increased mobilization by the international community and the EU, in close coordination with the UN, WHO and the countries concerned.

President Hollande announced that France would respond positively to Guinea’s request for the construction of new anti-Ebola treatment centers, in addition to those currently being deployed in Macenta, in Guinea’s forest region.

He also indicated that France was considering the introduction of screenings for flights arriving from the areas affected by the virus.

The two heads of state confirmed their determination to combat Daesh within the framework of the international coalition.

They expressed their shared desire to strengthen international support for the moderate Syrian opposition.

They confirmed their commitment to supporting the new Iraqi authorities and the forces working on the front line to combat Daesh.
