The French President strongly condemns the vile terrorist attack yesterday evening which killed at least 50 people and wounded 100 in Gaziantep, Turkey, during a wedding.
France extends its condolences and sympathy to the Turkish authorities and people in this ordeal. It stands alongside all those combating the scourge of terrorism.
The French President had a meeting with Mr Idriss Deby Itno, President of Chad.
They talked about the fight against Boko Haram and the operations currently being conducted by the multinational mixed force, which brings together the states neighboring Lake Chad. The Head of State confirmed France’s support for this African force, whether as regards logistical support, the supply of intelligence or the provision of equipment or training. The two presidents agreed to continue ongoing efforts.
The French President also confirmed that France would increase its solidarity with the people living in that region through the Lake Chad initiative, promoted by the French Development Agency. This project will be implemented by NGOs. It will also enable work to be done on protecting the lake, in accordance with the commitments made during COP21.
