Interview given by M. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, to the channel CCTV

Shanghai, October 18, 2014

We attach importance to everything that can facilitate trade between the two countries. Obviously we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of French-Chinese relations. General de Gaulle was the first to establish such diplomatic ties.

We’d like to welcome more Chinese citizens to France, and that’s why we’re now issuing visas to Chinese tourists in 24 hours with no difficulty. We’d also like more Chinese people to study in France, and we’re encouraging companies to invest there.

So we support everything that benefits our friendship.

There’s still huge potential to exploit for Franco-Chinese economic cooperation.

We’re helping Small and Medium-sized Enterprises to settle in China so they can make the most of that market’s potential. The two countries have a long cultural and artistic tradition, and these exchanges have an essential role to play in bilateral relations./.
