International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists
On the first International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, I pay tribute to the memory of Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon, murdered in Mali a year ago while working on a report for Radio France Internationale.
Too many journalists – like our two compatriots in Mali, Camille Lepage in the Central African Republic and James Foley and Steven Sotloff, murdered by Daesh [ISIL] – pay with their lives for their commitment to press freedom.
By doing their job, they are also defending our freedom. They put into words, pictures and sounds the suffering and hopes of those who, without them, would be condemned to silence./.
