Communiqué issued by the Prime Minister’s office

Paris, December 2, 2014

Manuel Valls, Prime Minister, welcomes the decision of the ESA Ministerial Council in Luxembourg to develop a new launcher, Ariane 6, which will replace Ariane 5 from 2020.

This major, great decision opens a new chapter in space history.

It is the fruit of France’s commitment to strengthening a European industry producing launchers capable of holding their own in international competition.

This decision is the result of a remarkable collective effort: that of research, the French Space Agency (CNES) and other government agencies, as well as manufacturers which have all come together within a competitive industry.

Space is an issue of sovereignty. It also provides a tremendous opportunity for scientific research, innovation, competitiveness and jobs./.
