International Criminal Court

Statement by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development,

Laurent Fabius

Paris, December 17, 2014

I welcome the election, by the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, of six new judges from Germany, South Korea, France, Hungary, Poland and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

I particularly want to congratulate government advisor Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, who was France’s candidate. His election will contribute to the representation of the Romano-Germanic legal tradition and the French-language-speaking nations within the international criminal justice system.

France also welcomes the election of Sidiki Kaba, the Senegalese Minister of Justice, as president of the Assembly of States Parties.

I want to reiterate France’s resolute commitment to the International Criminal Court and to the fight against impunity throughout the world. The full cooperation of all nations with the Court is essential so that it may, with total independence, fight impunity for the gravest crimes that outrage humanity.
