The French President today convened a Defence Council meeting to assess the system for protecting national territory.
During the meeting, the Head of State confirmed that a heightened terrorist threat to our country still exists. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that everything is done to guarantee the protection of our fellow citizens.
He emphasized the importance of all the state’s resources being brought into play to detect, accurately monitor and forestall threats.
He decided that the necessary resources will be dedicated to constant vigilance, by means of a system adapted to the changing threat and including the protection of the most vulnerable places of worship and religious sites.
The necessary measures to ensure, if need be, the availability of the necessary military forces will be taken in the framework of the work being done in the coming weeks to update the military estimates act.
The President asked the government to examine with private operators and local authorities the development of additional – particularly technical – mechanisms enabling the security of sites to be stepped up.
He sought to ensure that the capacity of the state’s resources to be swiftly mobilized will be strengthened, including the deployment of additional military forces in the event of an imminent threat or attack warning./.
