Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic

Paris, March 5, 2015

The French President had a meeting [in Paris] with Mr Khaled Khoja, President of the Syrian National Coalition. He reiterated to him France’s political and operational support for the forces of the democratic opposition engaged on the front line against Daesh [ISIL].

The Head of State congratulated the Syrian National Coalition on its initiative of dialogue with the other components of the democratic opposition, and he encouraged it to continue along this path. He emphasized the need to work tirelessly to revitalize the Geneva process for a political transition in Syria, which is the only possible solution for bringing the Syrian people together, addressing their legitimate aspirations, eradicating terrorist groups and restoring law and order. He recalled that Bashar al-Assad is chiefly responsible for his people’s misfortune and for the rise of terrorist groups in Syria, so he is not a credible interlocutor when it comes to combating Daesh and preparing Syria’s future./.
