Climate disruption/presentation of Mexico’s contribution for the Paris Climate Conference (COP21)

Statement by M. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, President of the Paris Climate Conference

Paris, March 28, 2015

I wholeheartedly welcome Mexico’s announcement of its contribution for the Paris Climate Conference (COP21).

It is ambitious: among other things, it provides for an unconditional reduction, in absolute terms, in the country’s greenhouse gas emissions from 2026, whilst confirming a long-term target for 2050. It also provides for a significant increase in the goal set for 2030 in the event of international financial support.

I would like this contribution, the fourth after that of Switzerland, the European Union and Norway, to be swiftly followed by other ambitious announcements, in accordance with the commitments made along these lines during the Warsaw Climate Conference (COP19) and confirmed during the Lima Climate Conference (COP20). These contributions will be essential factors in the Paris Conference’s necessary success./.
