Nigeria/election of Mr Muhammadu Buhari

President Hollande congratulates Muhammadu Buhari on his election as President of Nigeria. He pays tribute to the determination of the Nigerian people and the excellent work carried out by the Independent [National] Electoral Commission.

President Hollande will have a discussion with Muhammadu Buhari tomorrow. He intends to establish with him the same relationship of trust that he had with Goodluck Jonathan, whose sense of responsibility he commends.

France continues to stand shoulder to shoulder with Nigeria in order to uphold democratic values, combat terrorism and promote the economic partnership between our two countries./.
