Fight against terrorism
Paris, April 27, 2015
The judiciary plays a central role in the fight against terrorism. This is why the Keeper of the Seals has decided to organize the International Conference of Anti-terrorist Judges from 27 to 29 April in Paris, in partnership with the National Institute for Advanced Studies in Security and Justice (INHESJ). The aim: to enable those judges from all over the world to develop and consolidate their relations in order to encourage more effective cooperation.
For three days, 173 judges and those involved in the fight against terrorism from 34 countries, as well as international bodies responsible for counter-terrorism (Eurojust, Europol, Interpol), will hold several themed round tables. “Judicial strategies in dismantling jihadist networks”, “New terrorist financing methods” and “Organized crime and terrorism: diverging goals and converging resources” are among the subjects to be discussed.
This international conference follows the speech by Mme Christiane Taubira to the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee in New York on 10 February 2015. On that occasion, the Minister reaffirmed her determination to combat the terrorist threat more effectively and invited judges from all over the world, as well as representatives of international organizations, to meet in Paris in the spring. Given the terrorist threat, the whole international community must be mobilized to prevent new attacks, which are currently one of the most serious threats to peace and security./.
