World Press Freedom Day
Paris, May 3, 2015
On this, World Press Freedom Day, France pays tribute to all those who keep it [press freedom] alive, especially the journalists of Charlie Hebdo murdered on 7 January. Since the beginning of the year, 22 journalists have been killed. Through them, it is freedom of expression that is being targeted.
France has made defending freedom of the press and freedom of expression a priority of its foreign policy. It is working actively, particularly at the United Nations Security Council, for the protection of journalists. It was on our initiative that an International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, every 2 November, was established by the United Nations./.
