Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic

Paris, June 23, 2015

Today, on Olympic Day, the French President wants to pay tribute to the French sporting movement and the City of Paris, which have just announced Paris’s bid to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This is a major project stemming from a noble cause: the values of universality, equality and fraternity set out by Baron Pierre de Coubertin and upheld by the IOC. It is also a unique moment for a whole generation to come together and show the world what is best about France.

This bid will galvanize our country. Wanting the Games means wanting to share a great event. It means making it a reality together.

The state will do everything to support the sporting movement and this bid, which will be exemplary in environmental, economic and civic terms.

The President assures Bernard Lapasset [Chairman of Paris 2024] and the sporting movement of his full support./.
