France, as an independent power and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, acts internationally for security and peace.
That objective has guided us since the beginning of the nuclear negotiations with Iran.
What we want is a robust agreement recognizing Iran’s right to civilian nuclear energy, but ensuring that it actually and permanently renounces nuclear weapons.
As such, at least three conditions are essential:
a sustainable limitation of Iran’s nuclear research and production capabilities;
a rigorous verification of sites, including military ones;
automatic return of sanctions for any breaches of commitments.
These three conditions, which respect the sovereignty of Iran, have not yet been accepted by all. Yet they are the basic triangle essential for the robust agreement we want./.
