Republic of the Congo/meeting between M. François Hollande, President of the Republic, and his Congolese counterpart
The French President had a meeting with his Congolese counterpart, Mr Denis Sassou-Nguesso, at the Elysée Palace on 7 July 2015.
They discussed the process to end the crisis in the Central African Republic and welcomed the significant progress made on making the country safe and secure and on national reconciliation. The two presidents agreed that the international community’s full mobilization should now be ensured, to lend enhanced support to the election process and enable the presidential election to be held on the dates planned.
Regarding the challenges of deepening democracy in Africa, the French President expressed his commitment to the protection and consolidation of institutions. He reiterated his commitment to the principles of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie [international Francophone organization] and the African Union, which require constitutional reforms to be based on consensus.
Finally, François Hollande welcomed the Republic of the Congo’s mobilization for the success of the Paris Climate Conference. He confirmed to the Congolese President that Africa, the continent most exposed to climate change, must be the focus of special attention in the framework of the negotiations under way to achieve a global agreement in Paris./.
