Paris, October 5, 2015
The President had a meeting at the Elysée Palace on Monday 5 October 2015 with Mr John Dramani Mahama, President of Ghana.
France and Ghana have long maintained a high-quality partnership. The French Development Agency is the main player in this. The two heads of state called on French businesses to invest even more in the energy, transport and agrifood sectors. They confirmed their wish to strengthen Francophony. Ghana has been an associate member of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie [international Francophone organization] since 2006.
The two presidents exchanged their points of view on many diplomatic issues concerning West Africa. They welcomed the resumption of the transition in Burkina Faso and called for swift elections. The French President paid tribute to the efforts of the region’s countries in the fight against Boko Haram and against maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.
Finally, the two presidents consulted each other on the issue of migration, which will be the subject of a summit in Malta between the European Union and many African countries this November.
They also prepared together the Paris Climate Conference, which is taking place at the end of the year./.
