Plenary session of COP21

Ladies and gentlemen,

Dear friends,

Dear colleagues,

We’re now going to enter the final phase of our conference.

The third session of the 21st Conference of the Parties is now open. The committee has handed to the COP, for adoption, the draft we’ve just been talking about. This document contains a draft decision and an annex including the draft Paris Agreement. We must mention two points of a technical nature which I already talked about earlier, during our last session of the Paris Committee.

- first of all, the Paris Committee agreed to advise the COP to make changes to the draft Paris Agreement, based on the work of the group of experts tasked with legal and linguistic verification;

- secondly, certain errors were pointed out and corrected, as the Secretariat indicated to us; so the Executive Secretary will remind us of those corrections.

I now invite the COP to adopt the draft decision entitled “Paris Agreement” which features in the document.

I’m looking at the hall, I can see the reaction is positive and I hear no objection. The Paris Agreement for the climate is accepted.

I’m being reminded that I have to strike the gavel. It’s a small gavel, but I think it can do great things./.
