Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic

Paris, January 14, 2016

The President convened a meeting of the National Intelligence Council at the Elysée Palace on Wednesday 13 January.

In view of the terrorist risk, the intelligence services’ first priority, more than ever, is to make the country safe and secure.

During the Council meeting the decision was taken to integrate more closely the domestic and external action of the intelligence services, which are helping prevent and combat terrorism both in France and abroad, particularly from the transit areas and havens serving as gathering places for the terrorists who want to commit terrorist acts on our soil.

The decision was also taken to increase the pooling of resources at the services’ disposal, drawing particularly on the intelligence acts of 24 July and 30 November 2015, the implementation of which an initial assessment has been made.

The daily operational management of the strategy to combat terrorism targeting the country comes under the direct authority of the Interior Minister, with the support of all the French intelligence community./.
