French Cuisine in 2016
A hallmark of our identity, France’s culinary richness is extraordinary and ever-evolving. In 2010, the UNESCO declared the “French gastronomic meal” – defined as a festive “social practice” – to be part of humanity’s intangible cultural heritage. We highly value quality ingredients and balanced, varied food choices, to be enjoyed as part of our daily lives.
Indeed, gastronomy celebrates the universal values of sharing and conviviality. In the U.S., it has been enriched by the country’s great cultural diversity and has evolved through the efforts of chefs and foodies who are passionate about passing on both techniques and a particular lifestyle.
A remarkable ambassador of France, our cuisine is also – for nearly one-third of the tourists, including many Americans, who visit our country – a major consideration in deciding where to go on vacation.
