Paris, February 9, 2016

The President had a meeting at the Elysée Palace on 9 February 2016 with Mr Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, President of Mali.

They reiterated their support for the Algiers agreement signed in May and June 2015, which confirms the return of peace to Mali.

They signalled their wish for it to be implemented at a faster pace so that the Malian government can ensure its presence throughout its territory and that certain fighters in the armed groups can be disarmed and reintegrated.

They underlined their determination to fight together against the terrorist groups which are continuing to try and carry out action in Mali. They underlined the importance of international cooperation, as promoted by the G5 in the Sahel, MINUSMA and the French Barkhane force.

The French President recalled the mobilization of France’s Official Development Assistance for Mali and the attention the international community has paid to the country’s reconstruction, as demonstrated during the OECD conference on 22 October 2015. He welcomed the inauguration last week of Timbuktu’s mausoleums, which have been rebuilt./.
