1. Syria - Bombing of a maternity hospital - Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development Deputy Spokesperson (Paris - August 12, 2016)
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, M. Jean-Marc Ayrault, utterly condemns the bombings on the night of 11 August which targeted a maternity hospital situated in Aleppo’s north-western suburbs. This shameful attack caused several casualties. The medical facility has received financial support from France since 2015.
France is extremely worried about the humanitarian situation throughout Syria, particularly in Aleppo. It calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities throughout the country, which is the only thing that will enable the prompt resumption of negotiations in a genuine spirit of responsibility.
France calls for international law and Security Council resolutions to be respected—they require the protection of medical staff to be guaranteed—and for immediate, full, safe and unimpeded humanitarian access to be put in place.
