Syria: "It is now crucial for this agreement to be fully implemented."
I welcome the Russia-US agreement for a truce in Syria. It is now crucial for this agreement to be fully implemented and honored, particularly by the regime and its supporters.
Aerial bombardments and attacks on civilians must stop, humanitarian access must be ensured for the benefit of all the people under siege, and Aleppo’s suffering must stop.
It is under these conditions that the agreement can pave the way for a political settlement, which is the only possible outcome. I welcome, in this respect, the moderate opposition’s responsible commitment.
France is continuing its consultations at the Security Council so that the intolerable use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime and Daesh [so-called ISIL], confirmed by the JIM [Joint Investigative Mechanism] report, is condemned and punished.
